Student Contributions

CEA welcomes supervised student participation from universities, academic clinics and education providers whose students can contribute to careful, ethical and evidence-informed work in the field of suspected misclassified male suicides in Queensland.

Practicality

Student participation gives universities a practical way to connect academic learning with real public interest work. It allows students to develop research, review, analytical and professional skills while contributing to work that supports families, strengthens systems and informs reform.

Disciplines

Students from disciplines such as law, criminology, forensic science, digital forensics, psychology, social work, public health, ethics, governance, policy and related fields may be suited to this work.

Participation

Student participation may include literature reviews, research summaries, policy and law reform research, coronial process research, education resources, advocacy resources, systemic reform projects and supervised structured review support.

Sensitive Review Work

CEA’s case review work is sensitive and requires maturity, care and professional judgment. Any student involvement in CEA case material will be limited to senior students working under the direct supervision of their professors, academic supervisors or approved university clinic leads.

Multidisciplinary Work

CEA’s work is multidisciplinary. Senior students may have the opportunity to understand police records, health records, forensic material, digital evidence, ambulance information, pathology, family concerns, witness information, workplace material and how coronial processes interact in the review of a suspected misclassified male suicide.

An Academics Prospective

From an academic perspective, participation with CEA can help students develop practical research skills, critical thinking, ethical reasoning, evidence analysis, systems thinking, trauma-informed practice and professional judgment. It can also support academic assessment, supervised clinical learning, honours or postgraduate research pathways, reflective practice, multidisciplinary learning and future professional development.

Comtrac

Approved senior student participation may also include access to Comtrac, CEA’s investigation management platform. Comtrac allows students and supervisors to work within a structured review environment where information can be organised, issues mapped, chronologies developed, records managed and evidence tested against other material.

Through CEA-approved collaboration, Comtrac user licences can be made available at no licence cost to the university. These licences are available only through CEA and only for approved CEA student participation, research, clinic or structured review work.

Student Involvement

All student involvement must be properly supervised, approved by CEA and limited to the agreed project, role and scope of work. Privacy, security and dignity are at the heart of what CEA represents. Student participation will be governed by confidentiality requirements, privacy safeguards, conflict declarations, controlled access, multi-factor authentication and ethics or governance clearance where required.

Supporting Learning

Student participation can benefit universities by supporting practical learning, supervised clinic work, applied research, multidisciplinary training, public interest outcomes and future publications. It can benefit students by giving them exposure to real-world issues, structured review methods, professional systems, ethical complexity and work that has genuine community purpose.

Research Outputs

Approved research papers and student research outputs produced through CEA collaboration will be published in Our Publications on the CEA website. Approved university partner logos will also be displayed on the CEA website in recognition of their contribution to this important work.
