Instructions for the person providing information
- Provide as much accurate detail as you can. Do not guess. If you are unsure, say you are unsure.
- Do not obtain information unlawfully, access another person’s phone, cloud account, email, social media, medical record, workplace record, or private account without lawful authority.
- Do not interview witnesses, pressure family members, contact suspects, contact children, or attempt to collect statements for CEA unless CEA specifically asks you to do so.
- Do not send original documents or highly graphic material unless CEA specifically requests it. Keep originals safe.
- Do not post allegations on social media or provide material to media in a way that may harm the family, contaminate evidence, prejudice an investigation, identify vulnerable people, or expose you or CEA to legal risk.
- If the information concerns your employer, a government department, police, health, forensic, coronial or regulatory body, do not remove, copy, download or disclose restricted material unlawfully. Describe what exists and where it may be held if you are unsure whether you can provide it.
