Invitation to General Practitioners

When a person loses someone they love suddenly and unexpectedly, even the simplest tasks can become overwhelming.

  • Getting out of bed.
  • Getting dressed.
  • Leaving the house.
  • Driving to an appointment.
  • Sitting in a waiting room.
  • Repeating painful circumstances to yet another person.

For many individuals and families, these tasks become difficult at the very time support may be needed most.

Removing Barriers

Some of our members live in regional and rural communities where healthcare services can already be limited. Others live in metropolitan areas but find themselves emotionally exhausted and unable to engage with the practical demands of attending appointments in person. Many are caring for children, managing estates, dealing with legal and financial matters, or attempting to navigate complex coronial processes while carrying the weight of profound grief.

For these reasons, Coronial Equity Alliance (CEA) is establishing a network of General Practitioners who are willing to provide consultations via telehealth, telephone, or video conferencing where clinically appropriate, with a preference for Medicare-supported and bulk-billed services wherever possible.

We believe that access to healthcare should not become another obstacle for families already facing overwhelming circumstances.

Your Critical Role

General Practitioners play a critical role in helping people access appropriate care. Through assessment,

  • Mental Health Treatment Plans,
  • Referrals
  • Ongoing monitoring:
  • and clinical support,

GPs provide the first step towards professional assistance and intervention.

Our aim is to remove as many barriers as possible between a person seeking help and a healthcare professional who can provide it.

The Reality for Many Families

Many people assume that seeking support is as simple as making an appointment, In reality, for someone experiencing:

  • Significant grief
  • Trauma
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Emotional exhaustion
  • Overwhelming stress

Means attending an appointment can feel impossible.

Families often find themselves in a situation where they are expected to find a General Practitioner, book an appointment, attend the appointment, obtain a Mental Health Treatment Plan, find a psychologist, counsellor, or psychiatrist who is accepting new patients, navigate waiting lists, and arrange further appointments.

All while attempting to cope with one of the most difficult periods of their lives.

For some, the hardest part is simply getting dressed and walking out the front door.

For others, distance becomes the barrier. Queensland’s regional and rural communities do not always have immediate access to healthcare services, and travelling long distances for appointments is not always practical.

By offering telehealth and telephone consultations where appropriate, practitioners can help remove many of these obstacles and make healthcare more accessible to those who may otherwise disengage from support altogether.

What We Are Building

CEA is working to establish a statewide network of healthcare professionals who can assist our members when referrals and treatment pathways are required.

Through this network, participating General Practitioners will have access to a directory of psychologists, counsellors, psychiatrists, and other healthcare professionals who have chosen to join the CEA Practitioner Network.

Rather than families being left to contact multiple practices in search of available appointments, participating practitioners will be able to refer members through an established network of healthcare providers who understand the circumstances often experienced by our members.

Our objective is simple

It is to make access to healthcare easier, more accessible, and less overwhelming for families already carrying significant emotional burdens.

We are working to

  • Improve access to General Practitioners throughout Queensland.
  • Reduce delays in obtaining Mental Health Treatment Plans and referrals.
  • Improve access to healthcare for regional and rural communities.
  • Reduce practical barriers that prevent people from seeking assistance.
  • Create a coordinated referral network between participating healthcare professionals.
  • Enable participating General Practitioners to refer members to psychologists, counsellors, psychiatrists, and other healthcare professionals who have chosen to join the CEA Practitioner Network.
  • Provide participating practitioners with access to a directory of CEA healthcare partners, allowing referrals to be made with greater confidence that services are available and accessible.
  • Reduce the burden on families who would otherwise be required to contact multiple practices in search of available support.
  • Encourage earlier engagement with professional healthcare services.
  • Provide members with trusted referral options rather than requiring them to navigate the healthcare system alone.
  • Build a statewide network of healthcare professionals committed to improving accessibility to care.

Our vision

Is to create a practical and accessible pathway to care, allowing members to focus on themselves and their families rather than spending valuable time searching for available services.

Becoming Part of the Network

Practitioners who join the CEA Practitioner Network become recognised healthcare partners of Coronial Equity Alliance.

Participating practitioners will:

  • Be listed on the CEA website as a recognised CEA Practitioner Partner.
  • Be featured within our Practitioner and Partner Directory.
  • Receive recognition through CEA’s Partner Network and Partner Pages.
  • Be identified as practitioners who offer accessible consultation options for CEA members.
  • Have access to a growing network of participating psychologists, counsellors, psychiatrists, and allied healthcare professionals for referral purposes.
  • Be able to refer patients through an established practitioner network rather than relying solely on publicly available directories or individual practice searches.
  • Become part of a multidisciplinary network of healthcare professionals working together to improve accessibility to care.
  • Assist in reducing barriers faced by Queensland families seeking professional assistance.

There is no expectation that practitioners become involved in coronial reviews, investigations, advocacy activities, case assessments, or organisational decision-making. Your role remains entirely within your professional medical practice and clinical expertise.

Working Together

CEA recognises and respects the independence of medical practitioners and healthcare providers.

The purpose of this network is not to direct clinical care, but rather to improve accessibility and create referral pathways that are easier for families to navigate.

Participating practitioners retain full professional independence and clinical discretion at all times.

CEA’s role is simply to connect members with healthcare professionals who are willing to make themselves available through accessible consultation options and, where appropriate, refer members to other participating practitioners within the network.
